We discovered Maui while on vacation with some of our close friends in the winter of 1997. Our second, third and fourth trip to Maui we traveled by ourselves and stayed at Kai's Bed and Breakfast in sunny Kihei. We instantly fell in love with the B&B and it's location in central Kihei. After our second trip we half heartedly dreamed of moving here and buying a B&B for ourselves. After our third trip we made the decision to make a radical change from our Wisconsin homeland to the most isolated islands in the world. We asked Misty Kjallman, the prior owners of Kai's B&B for help as she was a realtor with C21. She informed us that they were considering moving and the next thing we new we owned Kai's B&B! | ||||
| The next step was very difficult for us. We had just finished building our dream home in northwest Wisconsin on 440 acres with incredible privacy and views. We built the home ourselves with help from family and friends. This was a farm setting with many buildings and livestock. |

We had raised Llamas, Emus, Fallow Dear, Horses, Chickens, Peacocks, Turkeys and Rabbits on this farm. It was now time to sell off all of our animals, except our dog Snert, who would fly to Maui with us. This was also a very emotional experience after having some of these animals for many years. |

| Another difficult and emotional task for us was getting our dog of 14 years through the quarantine process. We have no children with the exception of Snert. She has slept on our pillow and been with us continuously for 14 years. The state of Hawaii has no Rabies so they have a very strict quarantine process for importing animals. Because of Snert's age, we were able to quarantine her for the shorter period of 30 days on the island of Maui. This meant being in a small kennel for 30 days. She had never been in a kennel so we were very concerned as to her emotional and physical condition. We started the quarantine process in Wisconsin with the necessary shots and paperwork, but we missed a timeline which meant Snert could not fly over until Oct 29th. We were scheduled to be on Maui August 22, 2001. We were fortunate enough to be able to leave Snert with her sister, Rob's mom's dog until Rob could come back in October. This meant Patty would not see Snert from August 22 until Oct 31, 2001. This was an eternity in her eyes. |
